Do you have a layover in Charleston, or are you just stopping by on an East Coast road trip? This cheap and budget friendly Itinerary for just one day in Charleston is just for you!

One day in Fall 2022, Southwest Airlines ran a HUGE sale- $29 flights one way. Soooo me and my fiancé decided to hop on this deal, which lead us to book a flight to Charleston and back in just ONE day. (we also had the companion pass so my fiancé got to fly for free.) Once the flights were booked is when I realized we were only going to get ~6 hours in Charleston. So, this itinerary is filled with things we did, and didn’t get to do!

One day in Charleston- Stop 1: The Battery

To start our day we took an Uber ride from the airport to the Battery. The Battery is a walk along the coast of the city of Charleston, Charleston on your left and the beautiful ocean on your right. We decided to start there because most of our plans would be near that area. We didn’t want to pay for an Uber over and over again, so we told ourselves we were going to walk everywhere else.

From the Battery you can walk all the way North to Rainbow Row, The pier, and the famous Pineapple Fountain. This is the walk we took and I totally recommend just wandering down some of the side streets. We totally felt like we were in that one episode of Outer Banks. (you know which one I’m talking about)

Stop 2: Fleet Landing

Once you are done site seeing and wandering around, you are bound to have worked up an appetite! I recommend getting a bite to eat at Fleet Landing. It’s just a short walk from the Pineapple Fountain and the Pier. Fleet Landing is one of the only restaurants along that way that is actually on the water. Make sure to keep a look out for some dolphins, we saw quite a few while we were there!

One day in Charleston- Stop 3: Charleston City Market

Next, if you want so see some really cool handmade items and other neat trinkets I totally recommend the Charleston City Market. Tons of handmade baskets and jewelry, plus a few shops to get some touristy souvenirs. If you’re a shopper, you’re bound to get lost in here for a few hours. But definitely go Early- they shut down around 3/4.

Stop 4: King Street

Alright high roller, its time to walk down the high market street of King Street. This is where you’ll find all of the designer stores, like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and other stores I felt too poor to even walk into, I will say it is fun to window shop and dream though!

One day in Charleston- Stop 6: Carmella’s Café and Dessert Bar

I bet you are hungry again after all that shopping! Time to grab another bite to eat! Carmella’s is high on the list of places to stop while in Charleston, I had multiple people recommend it to me. They have all kinds of things on their menu, from boozy coffee (I don’t drink, so didn’t get to try that) cookies, ice cream, and some other amazinggg desserts. I will say some of the desserts are a bit outlandish, so if you’re a picky eater, I’d look up the menu first.

So, this concludes the day that me and my fiancé had in Charleston. After dessert we hopped on another Uber ride straight to the airport heading back home to Nashville. But your day doesn’t have to end there. Here are some things on my list of things to do the next time I go back to Charleston: stop at Folly Beach, Sullivan’s Island, USS Yorktown, Magnolia Plantation, and the Cypress Gardens where the Notebook was filmed!
